Single Item Moving Services in Singapore
One sofa, fridge, piano, safe or treadmill. Get matched with vendors who price per item rather than charging you for a whole lorry.
Sometimes there is no move, just one object that will not fit in a car. A three-seater bought secondhand and needing collection across the island. A fridge going to a parent's flat. An upright piano that has to leave a fourth-floor unit. A gun safe, a treadmill, a marble dining table. Booking a full house move for a single item means paying for a lorry and a crew you do not need, which is why this is priced per item and not per load. The variables are weight, whether it fits the lift, how many flights of stairs sit between the item and the lorry, and how far the carry is at each end. An upright piano moved lift-to-lift between two modern blocks and the same piano carried down three flights of a walk-up are quoted very differently, and honest vendors ask about the stairs before they give you a number.
Included
What a quote covers
- Per-item pricing, so you are not paying for lorry capacity you will not use
- Two or more movers sized to the weight and awkwardness of the specific item
- Trolleys, straps, shoulder harnesses and moving blankets appropriate to the item
- Protection of lift interiors, door frames and staircases along the carry route
- Dismantling and reassembly where the item needs it to clear a doorway, such as bed frames and large tables
- Collection from one address and placement in the room you nominate at the other
- Specialist handling for pianos, safes and gym equipment, using vendors who do it regularly
Not included
What it does not
- Multiple items at multiple addresses, which is priced as a small move rather than per item
- Aircon units, which need a licensed aircon contractor to dismantle first
- Piano tuning after the move, which is a separate trade and should be booked a couple of weeks later
- Wall mounting, bracket fixing and any drilling at the destination
- Appliance connection: plumbing in a washing machine or gas connection is licensed work
- Crane or hoist work where the item will not fit the staircase or lift, which is quoted separately
- Disposal of the item it replaces, unless you add disposal to the booking
What it costs
How single item moving is priced
These are market rates that movers in Singapore charge, not our prices. You pay the vendor you choose. Knowing the range is how you tell a fair quote from a bad one.
S$100 – S$1200
per item, from a sofa to a grand piano
| Job | Typical range | Basis and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sofa, mattress, wardrobe or cabinet | S$100 – S$200 | per item. Assumes lift access at both ends. Stair carry is charged on top. |
| Fridge or washing machine | S$100 – S$250 | per item. Fridges should be emptied, defrosted and left upright. Connection at the destination is not included. |
| Upright piano | S$150 – S$500 | per item. Depends heavily on floor level, stairs and whether the lift takes it. Tuning after the move is separate. |
| Baby grand or grand piano | S$350 – S$1200 | per item. Requires specialist handling and sometimes leg removal. Concert instruments needing a crane sit above this range. |
| Safe over roughly 100kg | S$200 – S$450 | per item. Weight and access decide the price. Very heavy safes may need a stair-climbing trolley or additional crew. |
| Stair carry surcharge | S$10 – S$80 | per floor per item, or a flat fee. Vendors differ on whether this is charged per floor or as a flat fee. Confirm which applies. |
Priced per item and subject to a minimum charge, because the vendor is committing a vehicle and a crew regardless of how small the job is. Excludes GST. Stair carry, long carry and lift restrictions are the main variables and should be disclosed when you ask for a quote.
Quoted individually after a survey, because we have no reliable published market rate for them: treadmill or gym equipment. We would rather say so than print a number we cannot stand behind.
All prices shown are in Singapore dollars and exclude GST. Whether GST is charged on your move depends on whether the matched vendor is GST-registered; this is stated on the quote you receive.
How long it takes
1 to 3 hours door to door for a standard item with lift access at both ends. Longer where stairs, long carry or dismantling are involved.
How it runs
Start to finish
-
01
Photograph the item and the stairs
The item decides very little. Send a photo of the piece, the lift interior at both addresses and any staircase involved. An upright piano moved lift to lift and the same piano carried down three flights of a walk-up are quoted very differently, and the difference is the staircase.
-
02
Per-item quote, minimum charge stated
You are quoted for the item, not for a lorry load you will not fill. There is a minimum charge, because a vehicle and at least two people are committed regardless. Stair and long-carry surcharges are named in the quote rather than added on the day.
-
03
Confirm both ends
Collections from a shop, a warehouse or a private seller are standard, but the collection address must know the pickup window. A wasted trip is chargeable and it is the most common way a single-item job goes wrong.
-
04
Prepare the item
Fridges emptied, defrosted and dried a day ahead with doors secured. Treadmills and gym equipment usually need dismantling. Pianos are moved as they are; tuning is a separate trade and is best booked a couple of weeks after the move.
-
05
Delivered to the room, not the doorway
The item is placed where you want it and reassembled if it was dismantled to clear a doorway. Appliance connection, wall mounting and any drilling are not included, because plumbing and electrical work are licensed trades.
Questions
Single Item Moving FAQs
Is there a minimum charge for one item?
Yes, and there has to be. The vendor is sending a vehicle and at least two people, and that cost exists whether they carry one sofa or six. What per-item pricing avoids is paying for a full lorry load, which is what happens if you book a house move for a single object.
What decides the price of moving a piano?
Mostly not the piano. It is the floor level, whether the instrument fits the lift, how many flights of stairs are involved, how far the carry is from the lift to the lorry, and whether the destination has the same constraints. A digital piano and an upright are very different weights, and a grand is a different job again because the legs and pedal lyre usually come off. Send photos of the instrument and of the staircase.
Do I need to empty the fridge?
Yes. Empty it, defrost it and dry it out at least a day ahead, and secure the doors. Keep it upright in transit where possible. If it has been laid down, leave it standing for a few hours before switching it back on so the compressor oil settles. Plumbing in a washing machine at the destination is licensed work and not part of the move.
Can you collect from a shop or a secondhand seller?
Yes. Collection from a retailer, a warehouse or a private seller and delivery to your home is a standard single-item job. Make sure the collection address is expecting the crew and knows the pickup window, because a wasted trip is chargeable and it is the most common way these jobs go wrong.
The lift will not take my sofa. Now what?
It goes down the staircase, which is more crew, more time and a surcharge. In a small number of cases an item genuinely cannot clear a stairwell turn, and then it has to be dismantled or, rarely, hoisted through a window. A vendor who asks about your lift dimensions before quoting is telling you they have hit this before.
Can you take away the old one at the same time?
Yes, if you add disposal to the booking. Bringing in a new sofa and removing the old one on the same trip costs far less than two separate jobs. Note that your town council will take up to three bulky items a month at no charge if you would rather arrange it yourself and can wait for a slot.
